What is Short Code?

A Short Code is a special 5-6 digit phone number used by businesses, brands, or organizations to send and receive SMS or MMS messages. Short codes are designed for high-volume messaging and are easier for users to remember than regular phone numbers.

Short and Memorable: Typically 5–6 digits, easy for users to recall.
Two-Way Communication: Supports both sending and receiving messages.
High Throughput: Can handle large volumes of messages quickly.
Regulated Use: Often approved and leased through mobile network operators.

Marketing Campaigns: Sending promotions, offers, and alerts.
Voting & Contests: Users send responses via short codes.

Transactional Messages: OTPs, confirmations, or notifications from banks or service providers.

A TV channel runs a contest and asks viewers to text “VOTE” to 54321. Here, 54321 is the short code used to receive votes.
